What expertise or resources do you offer?
The NC Mountains region is gaining more and more recognition as a leader in green business and communities. The driving force behind this is part people and part place. As a place, western North Carolina is blessed with a wealth of natural resources, one of the highest levels of biodiversity in the world, and exceptional health, wellness, and outdoor recreation amenities that lead to an excellent quality of life. As a people, there is an emerging creative class designing a wave of green innovations and a tradition of stewardship of natural resources that leads to green lifestyles and many “early adopters” of new green products and services. Additionally, across the state of North Carolina, there is a commitment to green businesses evident in some of the most favorable incentives and resource programs in the country.

The AdvantageGreen program of AdvantageWest seeks to leverage these regional strengths to promote green economic opportunities and to support long term green job creation and retention throughout western North Carolina.
What opportunities or resources are you seeking?
-Seeking entrepreneurs looking to start or grow a green business in WNC
-Seeking existing businesses looking to expand into new green opportunities
-Seeking to partner with organizations that provide support or resources to green businesses

A Smart Way to Segment Green Consumers

The Harvard Business Review looks at smart marketing for green products: "When you target customers, it helps to know if they're "dark green", "light green" or "basic brown" in their attitudes, but, with so many green issues, products, and labels out there, it may be more relevant to your branding and communications to understand their personal green interests."  Continue reading...

Update on the Green Restaurant Initiative

Progress has been steady on the Green Restaurant Initiative since last month's newsletter update. The final solar thermal panels have been installed by Sundance Power Systems for the French Broad Chocolate Lounge and Posana Café. These two restaurants back up to each other between Biltmore Avenue and South Lexington Avenue and occupy the same building complex, allowing the restaurants to co-locate their systems on an adjacent building. After running into challenges related to the age of the…

Greetings, Matt!

Indeed, Annie posted information on our Business of Brownfields workshop. We are getting some registrations, but certainly hoping the numbers pick up soon. If you have any way of helping promote the event, we'd appreciate it. Are you getting the newsletters we are sending out? I sent another Friday, hope you got it.

Take care,

Holly

Honestly, I swore I'd signed up for this, too! But today I guess I made it official. Neil and I are looking forward to seeing you at the S.E.E. Expo. Looks like a great event.

Cheers,

Matt,
Thanks for a very productive meeting on 2/16/10. I sent the link to the LOSRC's Energy Team and I see that Ron Townley has signed on. Julie will explore how LOSRC wants to bring www.cleanenergywnc.org to the AdvantageGreen Networking site.

I'll follow-up on the survey issues later today.
Regards,
Dan
