NC 10% Campaign passes $2 million spent for local food



Since July, North Carolinians participating in the 10% Campaign have spent more than $2 million on food from local sources. The 10% Campaign is an effort to educate and encourage consumers to spend 10 percent of their food dollars on locally sourced food.

Funding for green economy projects available from US EDA

The US Economic Development Administration has released a solicitation for funding proposals for the following grant programs: (i) Public Works and Economic Development Facilities Program; (ii) Economic Adjustment Assistance Program; and (iii) Global Climate Change Mitigation Incentive Fund (GCCMIF) Program.



For FY 2011, the funding cycle deadlines are as follows:

USDA modifies biomass program

In late October 2010, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced revised rules to govern the Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP). BCAP was established in the 2008 Farm Bill to provide incentives for the establishment and cultivation of biomass crops to be utilized for heat, power, and biofuels.

School board to get 80% of electricity needs from solar, save $40million over 20 years

The Antelope Valley Union High School District, located in Lancaster, California, has partnered with PsomasFMG and Southern California Edison to build a 9.6 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic system. 1.1MW Solar farm now operating in Alexander County

Solar power has come to Alexander County in a big way with the recent installation of a “solar farm” added to the EnergyUnited power grid. The facility was unveiled on Friday, Nov. 12, during a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Facebook to build state-of-the-art and LEED-Gold certified data center in WNC

Last week, Facebook, the world's largest online social network, announced that it will built a LEED-Gold certified data center in Rutherford County. In using new technology, the company expects the new facility to be one of the most energy efficient data centers in the country.
