DOE Launches New Tools to Accelerate Adoption of Electric Vehicles

In August, the U.S. Department of Energy announced the launch of two online tools designed to help communities better prepare for widespread adoption of plug-in electric vehicles (EVs). DOE has developed a template to help local governments design permits for residential EV charger installations and accelerate the approval process. DOE has also released a training video to provide inspectors and electricians with a guide to facilitate inspections and installations of home EV chargers.

Those sound like good resources to post on this website

Hi Brian,

Yes, you are correct.  The UL University training is geared more towards commercial/public applications versus residential.  Most of our work is commercial versus residential.  I also have a lot of white papers, best practices, and training documentation on both EVs and EVSE in pdf from various sources that I can share if anyone is interested. Just let me know.

Thanks for the UL University training link.  Does this cover EVSE installations that are more likely to be public (parking decks, on-street, etc).  I think the video on the DOE website is just focused on residential installations.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for sharing this link.  I read the article and reviewed the permit template, and its great.  I've had quite a few municipalities that we're working with who have asked for this, which I will now share.  This evening I will review the training video, and I will potentially have our technicians to also view it.  Another similar resource is available from UL University: http://www.uluniversity.us/catalog/display.resource.aspx?resourceid....  We had our technicians to take this course and to get certified.

Thanks,

Brian Edens
