02/29/12: The Bikes Belong Grants Program provides support for projects that leverage federal funding and build momentum for bicycling in communities across the U.S. Funded projects can include bike paths and rail trails, as well as bike parks, mountain bike trails, BMX facilities, and bicycle advocacy initiatives. 03/01/12: ASAP announces its 2012-2013 Farm to School Community Grant. The grant is designed to offer communities the training and support they need to implement successful Farm to School programs and to create positive food environments for children. Grantees will receive $3,000 to launch or expand a Farm to School program at an elementary school; training and technical assistance, local food and farm promotional materials, and more. 03/09/12: The NC Division of Environmental Assistance and Outreach (DEAO) has opened its 2012 Community Waste Reduction and Recycling Grant Round. DEAO is seeking to fund viable well planned projects that help communities build sustainable capacity to divert materials from the waste stream and / or that increase public awareness of waste reduction and recycling.

Program: Genomic Science: Biosystems Design to Enable Next-Generation Biofuels

Description: This program is interested in receiving applications for research that supports the Genomics Science Program and addresses DOE?s missions in energy and the environment in the following research areas: a) Microbial systems design for biofuels, from computer modeling to experimental validation: To develop modeling algorithms and innovative biosystems design technologies to define, build, and apply functional biological modules for the generation of novel biological systems that advance toward the production of biofuels; and b) Plant systems design for bioenergy: To develop novel technologies to re-design bioenergy crops that can grow in marginal environments while producing high yield of biomass that can be easily converted to biofuels. Applications should also address potential societal implications of engineered organisms.
