CEO of Colorado's Sundrop Fuels spoke last week on Thanksgiving about the new proposed location of a $450 Million biofuels refinery; Wayne Simmons stated "Our decision to locate in Rapides Parish underscores Louisiana's commitment to the advanced biofuels industry" he said, "and we look forward to our partnership in helping meet the nation's growing energy needs."
This facility will bring 150 new jobs to Louisiana's Rapides Parish. The average pay will be $58,000 (plus benefits), and about 1,150 indirect jobs are expected to be created by this new facility in the region. The site is about 1200 acres with room for expansion. The expected output of the plant is 50 million gallons of fuel a year with the goal of 1 billion gallons produced annually in 2020. This amount is almost 10 percent of the federal government's stated goal for renewable fuels.
