Description:
Full-time (40 hours/week), 10-week Multifamily Housing Energy Efficiency Market Analysis Intern with Southern Energy Management, Morrisville, NC, beginning in June 2011. This position is funded through the Appalachian State University Energy Internship and Fellowship Program through a grant from the NC Department of Commerce/State Energy Office, as part of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA). The Multifamily Housing Energy Efficiency Market Analysis Intern will complete the following. Multifamily housing market analysis for energy efficient construction programs. Identification of multifamily developers, builders, and financiers by market in both the affordable housing and market rate housing sectors. Identification of the upcoming pipeline of multifamily projects and their key characteristics (developer, builder, location, project type, number of units, etc.). Identification of incentives, inducements, motivators for multifamily developers to specify energy efficiency in new construction projects. Tools, procedures to follow, outreach programs to receive timely information about upcoming projects. Identification of SEM competitors and their strengths and weaknesses. Analysis of SEM product pricing models vs. competition.
Qualifications: Applicants must either be a currently-enrolled undergraduate or graduate student at Appalachian State University or a graduate, within the preceding three years, of an accredited institution of higher education in the State of North Carolina. Undergraduate student in Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain, Energy or similar discipline. Demonstrated interest and knowledge of housing industry. Coursework or experience with accounting is preferred but not required. Experience in market research is preferred but not required. Highly proficient computer user: Microsoft Excel essential. Ability to work independently, organizes and manages multiple tasks, and recognizes priorities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a positive attitude.
