Wilkes Community College Club Unveils Electric Car

"JEFFERSON-The Industrial Technology and Engineering Club (ITEC) of Wilkes Community College debuted its electric vehicle project recently at WCC's Ashe campus.  "While most of the work has been completed over the past 6 months, this has been a 2-year process that will continuously evolve," said Chris Bare, advisor for ITEC and instructor for the Ashe Campus Applied Engineering Technology department. "Funding will determine future projects; however, we've received amazing support for the EV project.""

"Pending the outcome, WCC would like to use the vehicle around Ashe Campus and to provide courier service between the campus and the cosmetology school, and also in Ashe County, the spokesman said. This would reduce emissions and save on fuel cost. The estimated cost of recharging the electric vehicle is less than $2 per day versus $5 for fuel."
